Bright medium cherry-red. Aromas of raspberry, cola and licorice, plus a whiff of stewed fruits and earth. Broad, fat and sweet on the palate, showing some superripeness but also good freshness to the flavors of raspberry, sassafras and earth.
Etude was founded on the philosophy that winemaking begins in the vineyard long before the harvest and, that superior grape growing diminishes the need for intervention by the winemaker, resulting in the authentic expression of the varietal. The Etude Carneros Pinot Noir is a true reflection of the winery’s estate vineyard, Grace Benoist Ranch. A blend of the best grapes from individual vineyard parcels on the Ranch, this wine tells the story of a particular vintage from a very unique place. The Estate Pinot Noir undergoes cold maceration and small lot open-top fermentation with extended time on the skins and is then aged for 12-14 months in the finest French oak barrels. The wines are subject to a rigorous selection process whereby only the best casks are chosen for the Etude label. The goal is to produce a Pinot Noir that is of the highest quality and reflects the unique terroir of Etude’s estate vineyards. Deep ruby in color, Carneros Pinot Noir is driven by inviting aromas of ripe cherry and red berries, and accented with notes of forest floor and Asian spice. The classically structured palate showcases a seamless blend of lush, dark fruit and oak, which is enhanced by refined tannins. Due to the low yield of this vintage, this defined Pinot Noir has an intensely concentrated fruit core that is balanced with a bright, lasting acidity. (Current Vintage)
