Details

The Blandy family founded their winery in 1811 and in 1925 formed the original Madeira Wine Association in partnership with Leacock’s Madeira. In 1989, the Symington family, renowned fourth generation Port producers, entered a partnership with the Blandy’s in what had then become the Madeira Wine Company, which also represents Cossart Gordon, Leacock’s and Miles. Over the last 15 years, the Symington’s have used their winemaking experience, dedication to reinvestment in the vineyards and winery, and worldwide distribution network to revitalize the Madeira trade. Blandy’s Vintage Bual 1968 is a single harvest Madeira. This wine was aged for 36 years in seasoned American oak casks in the traditional “Canteiro” system. In the process the casks were gradually transferred from the top floors of the lodge, where it is naturally warmer, to the middle floors and eventually to the ground floor where it is cooler. The wine was regularly racked and when it reached the desired stage of maturity it was bottled. Only 4,107 bottles of this wine were released. Clear, amber color with golden green tinges at the rim. Intense and complex characteristic bouquet of Madeira with notes of toffee, wood, vanilla and chocolate. Full-bodied and medium sweet, with mellow fruit that provides a long and warm aftertaste. Blandy’s Vintage 1968 Bual is a superb accompaniment to dessert dishes, especially chocolate and cheeses or can be enjoyed on its own.Madeira is best served in classic Port wine glassware or white wine glasses. Avoid cordial or liqueur glasses as they are too small to fully appreciate the wine’s aromas.
