The nose exhibits deep red currant and cinnamon, accompanied by blackberry jam and the faint suggestion of spicy Mexican hot chocolate. The palate showcases ripe summer red and black berries along with dried currants and pipe tobacco. Tannins are soft yet beautifully expansive. The tremendous finish, so famous in the wines from this area, showcases hints of first press olive oil and damp, rich soil.
As a child I played in the vineyards. As a young man I worked alongside some of the finest winemakers in the world. The vineyards are my life because I have lived my life in and amongst them. And there I learned by doing. Hands on. When I wanted to learn something, I asked someone to show me. I got my hands dirty. Absorbing every lesson offered about meticulous crafting of some of the finest wines made over the course of many years inspired me — because in wine, one can take a lifetime of knowledge and pass it forward. Mockingbird is about connecting the past to the present. It’s the story of the courageous people who created and shaped the Napa Valley. This is my wine. This is their wine. Tuck Beckstoffer Located in the heart of the renowned Rutherford bench and planted to clones 4, 6 and 7, Beckstoffer George III Vineyard is Napa Valley floor at its very finest: a simply perfect vineyard site that bridges the span between the landmark wines of Bordeaux and the awe-inspiring wines of Napa Valley. The gravelly loam soils make for tiny yields and result in tremendously concentrated and focused wines. The Mockingbird Red shows beautifully now, but two to three years of aging will only heighten the experience this bottle of wine will eventually offer to its fortunate owner.
